[Council] News from Fran

Dear council,

I hope you've all been enjoying a restful winter break! I am writing to 
you today with some news: after almost seven years, the time has come 
for me to move on from GEN Europe. It's all happened rather more quickly 
than I might have hoped (I know it's not the most convenient time of 
year to come with this news!) but I've been offered a role as digital 
communications manager for Earth4All, part of the Club of Rome, and I'll 
be moving on towards the end of February. It feels like a great 
opportunity for me, but I also think it's a good chance for GEN EU to 
have some fresh energy and new ideas in the communications role, and 
I'll of course be available to support the new post-holder however I can.

In the meantime, I'm committing to finishing the GEN EU website and the 
Gathering launch, as well as fulfilling all the EC2 tasks. I'll also 
prepare a comprehensive handover and be available for any questions and 
support needed, during the handover and at any time in the future!

It's a bittersweet moment as of course I'm excited, but GEN EU has been 
such a huge part of my life over these years that it will be hard to 
move on from this place that truly feels like home and family. It's been 
the biggest pleasure and joy to work for GEN EU: I've made some of my 
dearest friends, been part of the best team, and together we've created 
many wonderful things that we should all be very proud of. I remember 
with special fondness the amazing online gathering we cocreated during 
Covid, our mad trip to Egypt for EcoGamer, all the special moments at 
all the Gatherings (whether dancing with everyone or escaping for coffee 
or a drink when it all got too much!), seeing how everyone pulled 
together to support Ukraine...and so much more.

We'll speak more within the team in the new year to arrange the details 
of handover, but please be assured that I'll do everything I can to make 
it as smooth a process as possible. I have spoken to Manja and we will 
be preparing the call to go out shortly - so if you know anyone who 
would be a good fit, don't hesitate to let them know that we will be hiring!
